Why are the Arizona Cardinals the home team in the Super Bowl?

April 62010

I was reading yahoo sports about the teams electing their jersey colors, and noticed that it said "the Cardinals, as the home team,..". I was just wondering why Arizona is considered the home team, when the Steelers were 2nd seed whereas the Cardinals were a 4 seed

What’s it matter!!

It’s the NFC’s turn to be the home team…they rotate each year.

NFC teams are the home team in odd numbered years. AFC teams are the home team in even numbered years.

    They switch off every year.
This year the NFC team is the home team and can decide which jersey they wish to wear. Next year, like last year, the AFC team is the home team.

Depending on who won the Pro Bowl last year.
If the AFC wins it they get home Court advantage in the super Bowl.
If the NFC wins it they get home court.

Since NFC won it last year that is why they have home court adv.

The home team in the super bowl rotates each year, according to conference.

In 2002, the AFC team was the home team (Patriots vs Rams)
In 2003, the NFC team (Buccaneers vs Raiders)
In 2004, the AFC team (Patriots vs Panthers)
In 2005, the NFC team (Eagles vs Patriots)
In 2006, the AFC team (Steelers vs Seahawks). Although the Steelers chose to wear their white jerseys, for some reason.
In 2007, the NFC team (Bears vs Colts)
In 2008, the AFC team (Patriots vs Giants)
In 2009, the NFC team (Cardinals vs Steelers)
