BYU Basketball 2009-2010: Arizona State Sun Devils

April 22010

The BYU Cougars basketball team got revenge from last year’s loss at Arizona State, defeating the Sun Devils 81-68 Tuesday night in the Marriott Center. Freshman Tyler Haws had a double-double with 17 points and 11 rebounds. Jackson Emery continued to be a spark nailing 5 three-pointers and also finishing with 17 points. Jimmer Fredette scored 10 points, while hitting his 33rd straight free-throw to pass Michael Smith’s record for consecutive free-throws of 32 set in 1989. BYU went into halftime with a 16 point lead and even led by as much as 20 points, but a furious rally by Arizona State cut the lead to four with five minutes left in the game. Perfect free-throw shooting by Haws, Tavernari, and Fredette sealed the game for the Cougars. BYU improves to 7-1 on the season and gets ready for a Saturday game against ex-Cougar coach Steve Cleveland’s Fresno State Bulldogs in the Save Mart Center.
