What classes to take as an incoming transfer, junior student to Arizona State University?
April 62010
I am a junior, transfer student going to Arizona State this fall.
I was wondering, once you’ve completed your general ed, are there any other courses you need to take other than your major ones?
For example, if i am a history major, do I just take history classes once i completed general ed? Or, does ASU require you to do your major courses as well as other courses?
I know i need to talk to an advisor, but i wanted to ask you fine folks as well…. hopefully, students from ASU or former students!
So what i am understanding is that you took all the gen eds for Arizona state right? If your answer is yes… YES, you only have to take classes that you need in order to major in history. however, there are some parts that gets tricky….
Since you are transferring, ASU only allows certain amounts of credits transferred and certain amounts of credits that you NEED to take in ASU to able to graduate.. i forgot how much exactly but ask your advisors when you meet them (its manadatory for ASU to meet with an advisor before school starts) They have this guideline where if you are tarnsfering from community college and taken courses that would be credited as 300 or 400 level in ASU… it could be good and bad because ASU makes you to take certain amount of upper classes IN ASU to graduate as well.
regarding all these exceptions, my recommendation is to plan your last two years of college in advanced so that all these requirements are met. After that, you could ask your advisors to check if you met all the requirmenets to graduate on time. The advisors would only help you next semester not your whole two years that you are there so if YOU ask them with your schedule.. they will be more than happy to look at it.
Oh and i have graduated in science and my advisors gave me already planned layout schedule to graduate in 4 years. Ask your advisor if they have it for a history major as well.
Hope this helps. Good luck!!
