Great campgrounds in Arizona?

March 232010

I need to find a campground that has fishing, toilets and preferably showers close by. If anyone has camped in Arizona and know of a great place, I would love to hear a bout it.

Thanks!

One of the best campgrounds in Arizona is in Circle Pines, right near Wickenburg. It is quiet and has a friendly crew. They have showers there and they are very clean and well kept. I don’t know about fishing, but Circle Pines is one of the best overall campgrounds in Arizona.

what is the best campground membership tp purchase is i plan to camp throughout mostly cal yet nev/arizona?

March 212010

Actually, I wouldn’t buy a membership. I’d buy a book, like AAA has that explains where all campgrounds are. Do it this way you’re not limiting yourself to 1 type. You shouldn’t have trouble finding a place to camp. Have fun!

Does anyone know of a camground between the Arizona and California Border on the way into Phoenix?

March 152010

I want a campground between Joshua Tree and Phoenix. Somewhere that would be safe for a female traveling alone!!!

The main route from Joshua Tree to Phoenix would be along I-10, crossing the Colorado River near Blythe. Unfortunately, there is not much of anything between the border and Phoenix (campgrounds or otherwise).

About 30 minutes this side of the border is the small desert town of Quartzite. It is a major RV spot for snowbirds and gets quite a crowd in Jan-Feb when they have a big swap meet and rock show. There are quite a few RV parks around the edge of town that would probably let you camp for a night (since they are not quite at peak season). I once just slept in my car at the large dirt public parking spot near the Hi-Jolly monument (western end of town). It is probably not ideal from a safety perspective, but there are a fair number of businesses and other people around.

Heading east from Quartzite there is really not much at all until you reach the suburbs of Pheonix (which extend quite a ways west of the city and are growing outward by leaps and bounds).

From Quartzite, you could take the longer, but more interesting, old Route 60 (a classic old historic highway). At the small junction town of Hope there is a small RV park, but I have never stayed there and can’t speak to quality or safety.

Frankly, if you are heading from Joshua Tree to Phoenix, I would just camp at Joshua Tree and then get up early and go straight through to Phoenix – not much to stop and look at along the way anyways.

Does anyone know of a good place to camp in Arizona?

March 132010

We recently went camping and were not happy with the campground (Pine Flat West near Sedona). It was right of the highway, I mean we could see the cars from our site! We are willing to drive about 2-2.5 hours from phoenix. We are a family of 4, with 3 kids age 3 & 5. So we are looking for a place with bathrooms, and a place for the kids to swim and fish. Any ideas?

Thanks in advance!

i live in mesa try going to TONTO CREEK, outside of payson is good. we just go up by forest lakes but we go into the middle of nowhere

Mooney Falls

Mooney Falls is about a mile below the more famous Havasu Falls. This is a shot just before going into the first of two caves on the way down to the bottom of the falls.
