AZ DE SOL Food: Queen Creek Olive Mill Tour (Pt. 1)

April 172010

Queen Creek Olive Mill (www.queencreekolivemill.com) is owned
by the Rea family. Perry Rea started this olive oil operation as a hobby and it wasn’t long after he bottled some of it for a few friends that it quickly grew into a full-time agri-tourism business that includes a restaurant, specialty shop featuring local artisan cheeses, boutique wines, and a restaurant. Now, many high-profile Valley chefs and restaurants use his incredibly fresh olive oil in their
culinary creations. After trying a few samples for ourselves, I can see why the Mill’s olive oil is so popular among chefs. It is truly the best tasting olive oil that I have ever
tasted. After the tour, Lita, Mom and I checked out what was available in the store and were so impressed by the variety of olive oils available (as you’ll see in the video) as well as
the assortment of boutique wines. Best part of all, everything was reasonably priced, including the wine, so it was easy to buy a lot. Our personal olive oil favorites are Meyer Lemon, Vanilla and Blood Orange, so far. We’ll definitely go back to the Mill in the fall for the olive harvest to stock up for the holidays. In the meantime, we hope that you will check out Queen Creek Olive Mill and support this wonderful, local farming family. Namaste.

Sedona Arizona Oak Creek Canyon Tour

April 112010

In Sedona at the east end of Uptown is the entrance to Oak Creek Canyon. As you travel through the canyon, highway 89A meanders alongside Oak Creek below the towering formations. You’ll encounter several lodges, fishing holes, picnic areas, great hiking trails and campgrounds.
Further up Oak Creek Canyon is Slide Rock State Park. The natural water slides and pools carved into the red rocks provide a perfect setting for family fun. Plan to arrive at the park early because many days it fills to capacity.
Eventually the highway winds its way up the switchbacks to a scenic overlook, through a Ponderosa Pine forest and into Flagstaff for a total journey of about 25 miles from the “Y”.

When will Trader Joe’s come closer to Mohave County, Arizona? We travel 155 or 275 to the nearest store?

April 82010

Trader Joe’s is the best store to purchase safe fresh products. I would like to see one come to Northern Arizona, particularly, Kingman. We travel 155 one direction or 275 in the other. Our health food store is vitamins and dry goods only. HELP

For the last five years, we (I work for the company) have virtually exploded, opening hundreds of new stores… therefore I must say, unofficially, we will most likely be in your area within the next two to four years. I know that’s not what you’re looking for, but as we open all of our stores from profit (instead of getting loans), it sometimes takes us awhile.

I hope this helps at least a little, and I know what you’re going through! My parents live in Florida (no signs of a store there yet) and they email me a wishlist every time I visit.

Hang in there!

Can a 14 year old travel on a bus/train by themselves from Illinois to Arizona? If so what station?

April 62010

Well I want to go to Arizona with a friend where we will depart to California. I just need to know if I can and how much it would cost, or if I can and a website/location. I live near Peoria(illinois) and I want to go to phoenix(arizona).

You should be able to. I remember being 13 on a bus from New York to Rhode Island alone. Check greyhound.com or AMTRAK.com. They should have their policies regarding minors traveling or you can always send the an e-mail or call them.
