Metamemory: How Does the Brain Predict Itself?

April 52010

Dr. Alfred W. Kaszniak, Professor and Head, Psychology, presented on March 30, 2010, as the fifth lecture in the University of Arizona College of Science Mind and Body Lecture Series. Dr. Kaszniak’s research program is aimed at increasing our understanding of human brain systems involved in both cognition and emotion.

Our brains recreate past experience, monitor recall efforts, and predict our chances of remembering things in the future. The knowledge we each possess about our own memory, and strategies to aid memory, form what is called metamemory. Studies of persons with impaired metamemory due to neurological illness, along with brain imaging studies of healthy adults making judgments about memory, indicate that the brain systems active in retrieving information are distinct from those that self-monitor memory. Metamemory research is helping build an understanding of a wide range of experiences from tip-of-the-tongue forgetfulness to the symptoms of Alzheimer’s disease.

What are the most popular or top ranked sororities at the University of Arizona?

April 42010

What are the most popular or top ranked sororities at the University of Arizona? Is Alpha Phi a good sorority there? Be honest! (:

Most likely no one on Yahoo Answers will know that. Your best bet is to just meet them all and see what you think. People judge sororities so differently anyway, since there are so many different things they could be judged on (grades, amount of community service, number of members, how many socials they have, etc). They also change slightly every few years, so one sorority can be really popular one year and then 4 years later it’s not.

I didn’t go to the U of A, but I went to high school in Tucson, and one of my best friends is a Tri Delt there. Honestly, none of the sororities are "bad," they’re all just different.

If you want to be happy in a sorority, just be yourself and keep an open mind. Just because someone thinks one sorority is the best doesn’t mean it would be the best for you.

Is Arizona State University a good school for Chemical Engineering?

March 312010

How am I suppost to know if universtiy of oregon or texas tech isn’t better for me. I am not worried about cost, just about finding the right school for me. so if you go to Arizona State or any other university PLEASE give me some prespective of things

I graduated from ASU with my BS in Physics so I don’t know exactly, but ASU is okay in general. I suspect Texas might be better academically but the school of engineering at ASU is supposed to be pretty strong. I guess it depends on many factors- where you live now, your (anticipated) lifestyle, tuition, etc, etc. I do know that Univ of Ariz is supposed to have a very strong Chem Eng program in particular, but then again, you’d have to live in Tucson… If you’d like to talk about this in more detail, give me an email:

How do I get accepted into the dance program at University of Arizona?

March 252010

I have a few years before college but I really want to be dancer and it’s always good to think about things like that early. I really want to go to University of Arizona for dance, but I wasn’t quite sure what you need to do to be accepted. If you could give me some info that would be great! Also do you know if they offer tap there? Thanks :)

The dance program there is amazing (I’m going to minor in dance). You have to audition (you have to pay for it but it’s not much, like $25 dollars or something).

Here’s the audition requirements (from their website):
-Photo which can be a snap shot or Polaroid, in first arabesque (Print name on back of photo)
- A brief resumé of your dance training and experience
- Two letters of recommendation from a current dance source such as a teacher

I’m not sure about tap, but here’ their website if you want to look around:
