Northern Arizona Camping?

April 42010

I want to go on a camping trip to northern Arizona, perhaps the Grand Canyon in mid May. I live in west Phoenix but I’m new to Arizona so I don’t know any good camping grounds. I’ve only camped twice, and I’m only looking for a two night trip. So basically, any info I would need to know, or any suggestions about good camping grounds. I do have a jeep so it would be fun to do a little 4×4-ing maybe to get to the camp area. Also, I’m a college kid dont have that much money so whatever is nice area but cheap too would be great!

Try using this site, it’s pretty simple to use http://www.woodalls.com/tents/

Just enter in a state, city or tell it within so many miles of a location. It’ll also give you info on what amenities that campground offers. Example, pets, swimming, fishing, if they’re year round, etc.

I like it because Woodalls is a name you can trust and it’s a great tool to find campgrounds anywhere with the amenities you might be looking for.

Also, if you need a checklist to make sure you’re not forgetting anything, we have a pretty good camping checklist on our website. You can see it here. http://www.family-tents.com/articles/Camping-Checklist

Oh, don’t forget the food. Campsite food seems to always taste really good. Camping food memories can be among the best. Here is a great website for camping food ideas and they also offer a FREE ebook with camping recipes. I’ve got it, it’s terrific. In fact, as far as camping websites go, this is one of the best I’ve seen. http://www.joyofcamping.com/category/camping-recipes/

I hope this helps. Happy camping to you.

Long term camping in Arizona?

April 22010

I have read (lost the info.) that there is a 30 day limit for camping in Arizona’s State/National Forests and Parks…that you may return after 15 days and stay another 30….is this information correct?
* What are the best parks for (secluded) camping in Flagstaff?
* Any Links or Information would be much appreciated……….

the reason they do that is because some people decide to stay as long as you do and take camping spots away from other people, their allowed to camp too, and it’s 14 day stay limit, not 30 and there’s no return day limit:
STAY LIMIT : The stay limit in any National Forest campground is 14 days. Generally, there is a limit of 8 persons occupying each camp site. The Safford Ranger District (Mt. Graham) allows 10 persons to occupy each camp site. Make sure you give everyone else a chance to enjoy the area!

Arizona camping??

March 312010

Planning a camping trip and I was wondering if anyone has camped in any good areas in Arizona? swimming-hiking-fishing would be nice!! If anyone knows anything about Clear Creek Campsite can you give me some info!! It will be appreciated!!

Hi. I haven’t been to Clear Creek but know the area. If you plan on going in summer, it’s hot. Already around the Camp Verde area the temps are in the 100′s to 105′s during the day. Summer in AZ is the time to go up higher towards Flagstaff. Lake Mary is a nice pine filled area and the temps will be a bit cooler. Lake Mary turn off is just before you hit Flag if you’re heading north on I-17. There’s also Mormon Lake out there too. The Mogollon Rim (if you’re not from AZ, it’s pronounced ‘Moe- gee- on …a hard G like in gear) near Payson is a nice area. Christopher Creek campground is shaded by pine, also Canyon Point campground up the road from Christopher Creek campground has more sites and they are a nice distance from your camping neighbor. Both campgrounds have camp hosts. There are a lot of lakes in the area of the rim, and camping, and since it’s national forest, you could pull off onto one of the dirt roads and set up camp for free. During the summer months though, the days still warm up even in the higher elevations, that’s perfect for frolicking around water, but I would suggest taking a tarp or two to shade your camp site (and tent perhaps). Currently, there are fire restrictions. Last I looked you could have a campfire but only in designated areas. Flagstaff elevation is 7,000 feet and Payson is around 4,900 feet. Hope this helps!
