about the rocks that are found in the arizona mountains?

April 172010

I recently went hiking around the mountians in tuscon, arizona. On the mountain there were many rocks that had this silvery shiney stuff on them. It looked like a mirror or like aluminum foil and it flaked off the rocks easily. It was all over the mountains. Does anybody know what that is called?

mercury, probably leftovers from miners that used mercury to extract gold from ores.
