I hope to live a long life but if I must die before my time, let it be in Tucson, surrounded by the beauty of the Sonoran Desert and the fine people of the Old Pueblo.
I’m a native here & … I’m a native here & I too love the desert. Things here have changed over the years, some things are better & some nice things have gone away. It’s hard now to drive anywhere and not see houses. In the East the trees are tall enough to hide things a bit. Here, houses just stick out. Even w/ that, I’ve visited other places & I think that Tucson is as good as any when all things are factored. I hope you get the chance to come again & bring your family. Take care.
I would love to. … I would love to. From the first time I saw the desert there I fell in love. That was way back in 1977. The city has grown, but the desert is still the desert. My brother and sister-in-law live there and if i didn’t have to bring my wife and the 2 kids still at home I’d take advantage of the sofa hotel. LOL
Reubenhubert, you … Reubenhubert, you are correct, there is a place at the top of the pass where you can park and watch the sunset. This video starts just after they went over the top so the viewpoint isn’t shown. Come back & visit anytime.
I used to drive … I used to drive that at night, I’d throw the car in neutral & kill the engine and coast from the top of the pass all the way down to Kinney
I remember driving … I remember driving there every time I visited Tucson. I think there was a place to pull off and park to view the sunset. I loved visiting Tucson. I need to go back.
God, I miss this … God, I miss this road. I used to abuse the out of Gates Pass when I still had my Lancer. This is a helluva course if you’re a sharp driver and want to pull some G’s. =D
I used to drive … I used to drive this route daily when I worked at the Desert Museum, now I am stuck for 28 Months in Pullman Washington, Appreciate Arizona if you have the chance.
